Case study: distillation pilot plant frame
Option A: first arrangement
Our STAAD.Pro review found a twisting moment from the arrangement of two short columns. Resisting wind load and that twist needed extra bracing, which made the frame heavier and bulkier. Six columns sat very close together, creating foundation constraints, and a heavy ISMB 400 column section was needed.
Option B: optimized frame
We built an alternative STAAD.Pro model with four square hollow section columns (about 200 × 200 × 8 mm). It is more stable without excessive bracing, simplifies the civil foundation, and leaves more open space for operation, inspection and maintenance.
